Being Edmonton born and raised, I sometimes forget that West Edmonton Mall, where I worked part-time throughout high school and visit regularly several times a year, is the largest shopping mall in North America and once the largest shopping mall in the world. The mall is home to more than 800 stores and services, eight world-class attractions, two hotels, a movie theatre, and over 100 dining venues.

It was during my research into admission prices to one of those eight world-class attractions, with the intent of taking the kids over fall break that I stumbled upon a Fall Family Package at The Fantasyland Hotel located inside West Edmonton Mall. The internationally acclaimed Fantasyland Hotel is one of the world's most unique hotels, with over 355 guestrooms including 120 theme rooms. Starting at $238 per night, the Fall Family Package includes:
Theme room of choice,
In-room movie,
Kids eat free for dinner at L2,
Two attraction passes (to Galaxyland or World Waterpark valued at $60 minimum), and
350 WEM points.
Considering that I have always wanted to stay at The Fantasyland Hotel at least once since I was a little girl and the value of the attraction passes, could I have resisted this amazing deal? Absolutely not!

So last week, we got to experience a one-of-a-kind staycation at The Fantasyland Hotel. With Evelyn a huge Frozen fan and my fondness for igloos, I booked the Igloo Family Room and I must say, it was pretty cool (pun intended)! The room was beautifully decorated, the Arctic theme carried throughout every aspect of the room from the trimming to the walls, from the bedding down to the carpet. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. The kids were excited to sleep in igloo bunk beds, each equipped with a small reading lamp. In addition to the oversized in-room jacuzzi bathtub (my personal favourite!), the bathroom offers a shower and regular bathroom necessities. It was certainly an experience both Jordan and Evelyn will never forget and I must admit that Radwin and I got a kick out of it as well.
Shortly after check-in and after many ooh’s and aah’s over the room, we went shopping. There’s something to say about not having to wear or carry heavy winter coats while walking through a mail. It was too early for Black Friday sales and Christmas shopping so we window browsed until we had to turn back for our dinner reservations.
Let’s start off by declaring our evening at L2 Grill truly amazing! The service was excellent and the food was superb! We started off with the Grilled Lamb Loin Chop—perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. Radwin had the Pork Baby Back Ribs, which he commented was well grilled, full of flavour and juicy. I had the Atlantic Salmon, beautifully caramelized and scrumptious. Even the kids’ meals were generous in size and tasteful. Definitely one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a while!
After dinner, we took a detour to Scotiabank Theatre for popcorn before returning back to our room. Jordan and Evelyn were allowed two episodes of whatever was playing on Disney Junior to polish off their share of the popcorn. Once they were tucked in, Radwin and I used our free in-room movie credit on Hobbs & Shaw.
The next morning, following an effortless check-out and a quick breakfast, we redeemed the two attraction passes for Galaxyland, world’s largest indoor amusement park and home to the world’s tallest and longest indoor triple loop roller coaster. The park features over more than 27 spectacular rides, attractions and play areas for all ages. Of course, we stuck to those that were age appropriate and had a blast!
And just like that, before we knew it, our 24-hour staycation came to an end.
