We had the best time on our recent trip to Sydney, Australia and it was partly due to our wonderful accommodations. Since we were a travelling party of seven, it only made sense to book the 3 Bedroom Luxury Suite at Meriton Suites Pitt Street, a luxury apartment-style hotel.

Location

Meriton Suites Pitt Street is nestled in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. The Town Hall rail station is right around the back, making the hotel easily accessible by public transportation from and to the airport.

The central location means unrivalled access to the city’s finest bars, clubs and eateries. Get your Asian food fix at Chinatown, contemporary elegant dining at Darling Harbour or snacks and drinks at the corner 7-Eleven.

Iconic attractions like the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Tower, The Rocks, SEA LIFE Aquarium and St. Mary’s Cathedral are within a 15 to 30-minute walk. Hyde Park, Australia’s oldest park offering 16 hectares of wide open space, is two blocks away.

There is also no shortage of shopping options. Pitt Street Mall, which houses over 600 specialty stores and Queen Victoria Building with its high-end luxury brands and boutiques, are mere minutes away.

Hotel Feature

Meriton Suites Pitt Street offers:

  • Free unlimited wi-fi,

  • 24-hour fitness centre,

  • Indoor pool and hot tub,

  • Sauna,

  • Luggage storage,

  • Dry cleaning,

  • 24-hour concierge services, and

  • Car parking ($45 per 24 hour).

Additionally, each apartment is air conditioned and has a full kitchen, in-suite washer/dryer, flat-screen TVs, laptop compatible safes, and designer toiletries.

Arriving and Check-In

Our arrival was a tad underwhelming. The hotel was undertaking a refurbishment project to transform the main hotel lobby to a more contemporary look. The project is expected to be completed in early 2023, which meant we were greeted with a tarp covered entrance and main lobby.

The check-in process was a bit slow. There were several long moments of silence while the front desk clerk typed away at the keyboard and scanned our passports. Engaging customers in small talk was obviously not a requirement.

One of the elevators was out of service during our entire stay, possibly because of the refurbishment project. This meant considerable wait times of more than 10 minutes during peak hours, which is inconvenient, inconsiderate and unacceptable for any building with over 50 floors.

Our Luxury Suite

First impression was wow! The 3 Bedroom Luxury Suite certainly lived up to its photos. The suite was modern and spacious.

The décor and colour were aesthetically pleasing, and the layout was smart and functional. I liked that there were corridors separating the living area and bedrooms from the suite entrance. This minimizes traffic and noise from the exterior hallway.

Living Area

We were given a corner suite which meant a living area surrounded by large bay windows, allowing for a lot of natural light. The couch and lounges were comfortable as were the dining chairs. A small work desk was strategically placed in the corner near the wall plugs and that was where we charged most of our electronics.

The kitchen was surprisingly more modest in space. This was unexpected considering the amount of space allotted to the rest of the suite. The kitchen did however have everything we would need to make ourselves at home – gas stovetop, oven, microwave, full-size refrigerator, a deep sink, dishwasher, all the utensils needed to make a hearty meal, and most importantly, a Vittoria Espresso coffee capsule machine.

The view from our private balcony at 49 floors up was incredible, despite construction at almost every corner of central Sydney.

Finally, just beyond the suite entrance is a small closet equipped with a washer and dryer. This is super handy for extended stays, those returning from an extended stay elsewhere or just drying wet swimwear. Laundry detergent was provided complimentary by the hotel.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom was comfortable and spacious. We left our three large luggages open about on the bedroom floor for easy access and could still move around the room comfortably. There was also a wall-mounted flat-screen TV and a decent sized wardrobe.

The bed and bedding must have been very comfortable as we slept very well all three nights.

This bedroom had its own private ensuite complete with both a bathtub and shower. The hidden shelves behind the mirror made up for the lack of bathroom counter space.

Other Bedrooms

The other two bedrooms were situated down a corridor opposite from the one leading to the living area. This worked well in our favour as it afforded my parents’ and aunt their privacy. Though these two bedrooms were a bit smaller in size, it was still reasonably sized for two with its own wardrobe and flat-screen TV as well.

Bathroom

The two smaller bedrooms shared a bathroom, but this bathroom had only a shower. Mimicking the overall concept, it was spacious and clean. Both bathrooms were furnished with Kevin Murphy hair and skincare amenities, a professional luxury line that is usually found in salons only.

Swimming Pool

There wasn’t anything special about the swimming pool. There was one large cold-water pool, long enough to allow for lane swimming but there was no depth indicator at the pool edges. The spa/hot tub was nice enough.

To my disappointment, the sauna was out of service.

Conclusion

Despite the inconvenience of the refurbishment project, we enjoyed our stay. Our suite was comfortable, and the central location was hard to beat. We walked most everywhere. The property is also family friendly, great for families travelling with small children and multi-generational families.

I recommend staying at Meriton Suites Pitt Street and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.
